Elastic Buckling Analysis of Thin-Walled Structures
FStr is a computational tool based on the Finite Strip Method, designed for the elastic buckling analysis of thin-walled structures. With an intuitive interface, it enables users to visualize buckling mode shapes in both 2D and 3D formats and to compute critical buckling loads for various member lengths.

What is FStr?
- A software developed using the Finite Strip Method (FSM), applying trigonometric series in the longitudinal direction to satisfy diverse boundary conditions;
- Allows analysis across a range of lengths through signature curves, helping users identify critical buckling modes for each case;
- Offers 3D visualizations with detailed color plots, enhancing the interpretation of structural behavior.
Easy-to-Use Interface
- The Graphical User Interface (GUI) is developed in MATLAB App Designer (MathWorks, 2000);
- Designed for clarity and accessibility, enabling seamless data input and results interpretation;
- Suitable for both academic research and engineering applications involving thin-walled profiles of arbitrary cross-sections.
Installation Guide
To install FStr on Windows:
- Download the latest
.exe
installer from the RELEASES;
- Execute the downloaded file;
- Follow the setup instructions to install MATLAB Runtime;
- A desktop shortcut will be created;
- Launch FStr and begin your analysis.
Important Notes:
- To uninstall, navigate to “Add or Remove Programs”, find “FStr” and “MATLAB Runtime”, and remove both;
- If the program doesn’t start correctly, try reinstalling MATLAB Runtime;
- For support, contact Joao Alfredo de Lazzari at joaoadelazzari@outlook.com.br;
- Be aware that other software using MATLAB Runtime may conflict with FStr.
